Research and Development
As the co-director of the Institute for Pattern Recognition (iPattern), I am working on different research projects in image analysis and pattern recognition. Published scientific results can be under "Publications".
Informationen on selected projects
- Symmetry detection
An implementation of the "Gradient Product Transform" for finding symmetry points or skeleton axes in grayscale images. - Estimating wealth distribution
Statistical methods for estimating the wealth share of the richest p percent (with source code). - Fourier descriptors
An OpenSource implementation of a generalization of Fourier descriptors for arbitrary shape retrieval. - Sentiment lexicon
Source code for generating sentiment lexica from paired comparisons together with a sentiment lexicon with 200 German words. - Track extraction
Algorithms for finding curves in point clouds. - Gamera framework for document analysis and recognition
An OpenSource python module for the creation of document image recognition systems.
Based upon this framework, a number of solutions have been developed at the iPattern institute, e.g., for the optical recognition of historic music notations like lute tablature or Byzantine chant notation, or for removing music staves from score images.
